A Culture of Honor, Dignity and Respect
Today, nearly 80 percent of adults with intellectual disabilities are not in the workforce — often leaving them isolated, without a community and without purposeful activity. At Ady’s Big Army, we’ve created an environment that gives adults with special needs the opportunity to do meaningful work, express their creativity and build lifechanging relationships — giving them the honor, dignity and respect they want and deserve.
Our Meaningful Work
We start each day with prayer and a devotional. After that, our groups of Citizens cycle through different enterprises during the day. Enterprises include creating handmade soap, greeting cards, baking, cooking and more. Each enterprise produces beautiful, handmade items that are sold at pop-up markets and our online store to support the Citizens and our community.
Each enterprise is carefully designed to give our Citizens the opportunity to engage their hands and minds and collaborate with their peers. The work allows them to learn skills, discover their passions and experience the joy of creation and accomplishment. It also gives them an invaluable sense of community and builds their self-esteem. It gives them the chance to experience the rewards of work and personal success so many non-disabled people take for granted.

Ady’s Big Army serves Citizens age 22 and older at our temporary campus located at 2865 Old Rocky Ridge Rd, Birmingham, Alabama 35243. Our day program operates from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Those interested in our program are highly encouraged to tour our facility. Almost without exception, those who have toured our program and engaged with our staff and Citizens have seen first-hand the amazing community we have built and want to become a part of it.
